Some Career Highlights

Business Transformation – Professional Services SMB
Guided the senior executives of a services SMB (100 staff, 6 locations, growing at 30% pa) through the development of a process driven future model of the company. Subsequently, managed the selection of the ERP application and outsourced infrastructure. This process potentially impacted many existing policies around clients and staff, and assisting the management of change was very challenging and rewarding. CEO recently mentioned my contribution to changing the company to a growth oriented effective organization.

Capability study – not for profit organization
Reviewed the IT decision making, infrastructure and support of a not for profit organization (aged care and other services) (650+ staff) growing at 25% per annum to ensure the growth would not be hindered by shortcomings in IT. Recommendations led to an outsourcing of some infrastructure components and a redefinition of the executive decision-making processes around IT.

IT Directions Statement – UTS
Developed a high level visionary statement of the application of information technology in the university. This involved all stakeholders including the University Council, academic and administrative staff, students and other external parties. The Directions Statement was used to develop a congruent approach to the use of IT throughout the university and as a tool used in the determination of priorities for the funding and application of IT to all facets of University life.

Transformation of IT division – UTS
Transformed the IT division (120 staff) from a task oriented technical organization to a customer focused outcome oriented one where clients in both Faculties and Administrative units were highly involved in partnership arrangements to ensure they had the appropriate IT solutions with a high level of service and availability within a tight financial framework.

Recovery of Major Project – RACP
GPAA was asked by the CEO of RACP to review an out of control project whose objective was to implement a new membership system for Australia and New Zealand. (The project had consumed 3 years and $8m+ without any deliverables). The outcomes of the review were very sensitive and political but after the review was published, was asked by the Interim CEO to re-establish the project for the college in the role of CIO. This involved changing implementation vendors, negotiating new contracts, rebuilding the project team and the IT team, while re-energizing the college staff including management. The project was successfully delivered.
